Verona’s Epic Systems is facing a lawsuit filed by Minnesota-based company CureIS Healthcare, which offers automated solutions for Medicare, Medicaid and state programs, WTMV15 reports. The 40-page lawsuit alleges that Epic has carried out a “multi-prong scheme to destroy” CureIS’ business.
The suit further claims that Epic broke state laws, violated trade secret laws, falsely advertised to customers and engaged in unfair competition. CureIS says that Epic’s “Epic-first policy” prevents customers from using the products of third parties by requiring anyone using certain types of software to use Epic’s versions of the product, if one exists.
CureIS alleges that Epic’s conduct deprives CureIS of customers, revenue and market opportunities and has injured the broader market and public.
“Epic believes in free and fair competition,” said an Epic spokesperson, “and we also believe our customers are in the best position to choose the right solutions to meet their needs — whether with Epic or by adopting other products and services. We are aware of the complaint filed by CureIS and we look forward to setting the record straight in court.”
