The recent opening of Staple & Fancy at 110 High St. marks Mineral Point’s first grocery store in four years, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. The spot was opened by entrepreneurs Brian and Kassi Blanchette.
The 3,800-square-foot retailer sells produce, locally raised meats, organic jams, homemade soups and a variety of pantry staples. Kassi Blanchette plans to offer catering services, and supplies the store with homemade food to-go from a large commercial kitchen in the back of the store.
In all, the store sells items from roughly 35 local producers.
The city’s last grocery store, Point Foods IGA, closed in 2021 upon its owners’ retirement.Â
In 2024, the Blanchettes also purchased the Whitehouse building, constructed in 1897, and a neighboring building, and renovated both spaces’ apartments, office and retail areas to provide additional income and support the grocery operation.
