A report from Milwaukee-based ManpowerGroup shows that hiring is set to cool, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The company conducts surveys every quarter, and its latest one asked 40,385 employers from 42 counties about their expectations for the future.
Of those surveyed, 41% are anticipating a hiring increase between now and June, around 37% expect no change in hiring during that time, and 19% expect a decrease. Thirty-four percent of U.S. companies anticipate hiring for April–June, up 4% from one year ago and ranking second on the list of countries surveyed.
The strongest outlook was held by information technology companies at about 34%, followed by financial and real estate companies at 29%, health care and life science companies at 26%, and industrial and material companies at 21%.
Most likely to lag are top-level management and STEM roles for women candidates. Only 43% of companies in STEM fields report increasing the number of women in top-level management, and 42% report raising the number of women candidates. The highest number of women candidates were reported for administrative roles, at 51%.
From a retention perspective, 37% of companies are promoting flexible working policies, 30% are developing internal leadership programs, and 29% are working toward an inclusive culture for their organization.
