The Veterans Community Project, a nonprofit started by veterans, will break ground soon on a tiny homes project to help homeless veterans get off the streets, according to Wisconsin Public Radio.
The development on seven acres will provide 40 tiny homes on Milwaukee’s northwest side. Each home is about 240 to 320 square feet.
Living in the homes will be free, and the mini community will have access to case mangers to help with permanent housing.
The project cost $11.7 million, receiving $2.5 million in the 2025-2027 Wisconsin biennial budget.
Fundraising for the project is about halfway complete. The homes should begin going up this spring.
