Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley on Tuesday launched a bid for Wisconsin governor, the Associated Press reports.

Crowley, a Democrat, joins Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez as the two highest profile Democratic candidates in the 2026 race to replace retiring Gov. Tony Evers.

Crowley would become the state’s first Black governor if he is elected, while Rodriguez would be the first woman.

The primary will take place in August 2026.
