Redevelopment plans by property owner Henry Chen hit a wall when the Middleton Plan Commission recommended on Nov. 11 that the city council deny rezoning the property where Imperial Garden and an Asian grocery store are located to allow a 10-story, 195-unit apartment building, Isthmus reports.
The original plan was to raze the Imperial Garden and Garden Asian Market, which are tenants of Chen’s, and build the new apartment building. A new plan would incorporate the restaurant and market into the redevelopment of the area.
At an earlier meeting on Oct. 28, residents spoke out against the project, sharing concerns about more traffic and safety hazards for pedestrians.
