EnTech Solutions and Northern Biogas LLC have formed a joint venture to acquire an active biogas facility in the town of Springfield, according to a release from the company. Utilizing anaerobic digestion, the facility turns organic waste from local dairy farms into renewable energy.

Three farm families in the Yahara River watershed have partnered with EnTech Solutions on the project: Blue Star Dairy Middleton LLC, Hensen Brothers Farm, and Ziegler Dairy. Combined, manure from more than 3,000 cows collectively is processed in three air-tight digester tanks to consume volatile solids while producing methane gas. Instead of releasing that methane into the atmosphere, the biogas is currently captured at the top of the digester and combusted in generators to create about 16 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year. Beyond creating renewable energy, the facility diverts wastewater from the surrounding watershed.
