The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) announced that the NCAA Division III Men’s Hockey National Championship will be held at Bob Suter’s Legacy20 Arena in Middleton on March 23–25, 2028. The bid to host the event was submitted in collaboration by the WIAC, Legacy20, and the Madison Area Sports Commission.
It’s the first time this championship has been hosted in the Madison area, and the event will bring nearly $740,000 to the local economy.
The WIAC since 2010 has won three NCAA titles, twice by UW–Stevens Point and once by UW–Eau Claire. UW–Stevens Point has also been runner-up twice during that span. Additionally, St. Norbert College has won four NCAA Championships and was also runner-up twice.
The NCAA Division III Men’s Hockey Championships is held twice every four years at a predetermined, neutral site.
