The Middleton City Council voted 7-1 last week in tentative support of $7.3 million in tax increment financing (TIF) for an overhaul of Old Middleton Centre, a 3-acre site bounded by Elmwood, Hubbard, and Terrace avenues and Parmenter Street.
If the proposal receives final approval from the city, developer Terrence Wall is planning to expand downtown Middleton retail and office space and add more than 200 apartments, the Wisconsin State Journal reports.
Wall wants to create a new Middleton Center by tearing down six existing retail and office buildings and putting up seven new buildings in their place. According to the State Journal, the new buildings would provide 30,500 square feet of commercial space and 36,000 square feet of office space, with 206 apartments. The development would also include 274 underground parking spaces and 106 aboveground spaces.
