Boys & Girls Club of Dane County president and CEO Michael Johnson announced his resignation and departure to lead the United Way of Greater Cincinnati, effective July 9.

Johnson, who served here for eight years, was selected from a field of more than 200 candidates to serve as the Cincinnati organization’s next president and CEO, according to a WCPO report. The Cincinnati United Way is the nation’s sixth largest, covering 10 counties in three states.

In Madison, Rod Mitchell will succeed Johnson as interim president and CEO. Mitchell has served as the Dane County organization’s executive vice president and COO for the past five years and has been involved in youth development, operations, and educational leadership for over two decades.

A nationwide search for Johnson’s permanent replacement is underway.
