Energy company Madison Gas and Electric is seeking approval to add 85 megawatts of solar capacity and 18 megawatts of battery storage to its power generation.
It’s a move to further reduce carbon emissions quickly and cost effectively, with an ultimate goal of reaching net-zero carbon electricity.
The move needs to be approved by the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin.
“With our current plans, by 2030, we will have added more than 40 renewable generation and battery storage projects since 2015, totaling more than 750 MW, propelling us toward our goal of net-zero carbon electricity by 2050,” Jeff Keebler, MGE chairman, president and CEO said in a statement.
If approved, MGE would add five large-scale solar facilities, one with battery storage, and the projects would be developed with WEC Energy Group.
