Madison Gas & Electric (MGE) has submitted an application with the Wisconsin Public Service Commission to partner with Dane County on a 9-megawatt solar array north of the Dane County Regional Airport. The array will produce about 40 percent of the clean energy used by all county-owned facilities, according to an MGE release. As planned, it would be the largest solar project in Dane County to date.

The approximately $16 million project will be built on 58 county-owned acres north of the airport and include about 31,000 solar panels. It could break ground in 2020 and be generating renewable energy by 2021.

MGE announced early in 2019 a plan to achieve 100 percent renewable energy by 2050.
