For the quarter ending March 31, MGE Energy, Inc. reported earnings of $27.7 million (80 cents/share) compared to $22.6 million (65 cents/share) for the same quarter in 2013. According to a release, the company benefited from the cold winter compared to the previous year. January and February, in particular, were two of the coldest months on record in the Madison area, with average temperatures of 11.5 degrees and 12.5 degrees, respectively. Normally, the average temps for those months are 19.4 and 23.7 degrees.
