Both Madison Gas and Electric (MGE) and Alliant Energy are seeking regulators’ approval to raise prices for electricity and natural gas in 2026-27, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.
MGE is seeking an overall rate increase of 4.9% for electricity and 2.3% for gas in 2026, with another 4.3% and 2.2% for electricity and gas, respectively, the following year. The proposal would cost the average customer — using around 500 kilowatt-hours each month — roughly an extra $7 per month for electricity and $1.70 for gas in 2026, and an extra $3.75 and $1.50 for electricity and gas, respectively, in 2027.
Alliant Energy, meanwhile, requested an overall rate increase of 8.3% for electricity and 6.7% for gas in 2026, and rate increases of 5.7% and 4.1% for electricity and gas, respectively, in 2027. The typical customer would see monthly costs rise by $6 for electricity and $3 for gas in 2026, and by an additional $8 and $2 for electricity and gas, respectively, the next year.
The increases, if approved, would boost MGE’s total revenue by $47.7 million for electricity and $11.1 million for gas, and those numbers for Alliant would be $202 million and $13.8 million, respectively.
