Area utilities benefited from higher temperatures in the second quarter, ending June 30.
MGE Energy Inc. reported earnings of $16.2 million (47 cents/share), an increase from $13.5 million (39 cents/share) recorded for the same period in 2015.
Warmer weather was the primary difference, with the average temperature (69.5 degrees) being two degrees warmer than 2015. Commercial customers consumed 2.1% more electricity during that stretch.
Alliant Energy Corp. saw its net income jump from $67.6 million (30 cents/share) in the second quarter of 2015 to $83.9 million (37 cents/share) this year.
