After raising its rates on Jan. 1, Madison Gas & Electric filed a request with the Wisconsin Public Service Commission to freeze its base rates at least through the end of 2014. Reports say the utility’s ability to save on fuel and aggressively contain costs means it will be able to keep rates at their current level. Last year, Wisconsin Power & Light, a subsidiary of Alliant Energy, received WPSC approval to freeze its electric rates and lower its gas rates by 7% in 2013.
