Madison’s Metro Transit will have an online public hearing Wednesday evening regarding the next set of changes in a sweeping system redesign that began in mid-June, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. The new changes will go into effect on Dec. 3.
The new system aims to deliver more consistent and frequent service but requires longer walks for some to reach a bus stop. Initial adjustments were made in mid-August and included a better connection between UW Hospital and campus and the west side.
The next set of adjustments include:
- Adding time for Routes A, B, and C, which are main routes running through the downtown area, to keep them on schedule;
- Adding buses into the Routes B and C schedule rotation to help keep schedules on time;
- A connection between Route C and Route R, the latter of which now runs from the west side and Middleton to University Avenue until 7 p.m. on weekdays and afterwards only operates to Sheboygan Avenue;
- Adding an extra bus trip to Route 75, which runs to Epic Systems and Verona, starting at Maple Grove and McKee roads and following Route 75 to Verona;
- Extending Route 28, which runs from Fordem and Sherman avenues to the UW Hospital area, to Sheboygan Avenue;
- Improve weekend efficiency of Routes J and O, which provide service from the west and south sides to the UW campus area;Â
- Schedule adjustments to better serve UW Hospital shift changes; and
- Adjust arrivals and departures for better connections at the South Transfer Point.
