Meriter Hospital will sell two downtown Madison parcels to two different developers that plan to build new apartment complexes and parking on the sites.
The Alexander Co. has a $21 million plan to purchase the vacant and historic Longfellow School and its parking lot. The school’s exterior will be refurbished and the interior built to include 50 apartments. There would also be a four-story apartment building with between 85 and 90 apartments, and a parking structure built on the current lot that would accommodate between 120 and 150 spaces.
The Gallina Cos. will buy and demolish five properties at 105, 107, and 113 Mills St., and 1020 and 1022 Mound St. to construct a four-story building that would include 72 apartments with both underground and ground-level parking. Cost was not disclosed.
Neither development has been formally proposed to the city, but both developers would like to begin construction in the fall.
