Madison’s Meriter Health Plans has been renamed Meriter-UnityPoint Health.
Iowa-based UnityPoint affiliated with Meriter recently and purchased its HMO, Physicians Plus. But Unity Health Plans, the Madison-based HMO affiliated with UW Health, sued the Iowa company, claiming the name UnityPoint Health was too similar to Unity Health Plan. In February, a judge temporarily barred UnityPoint Health from using the name “Unity” as a standalone word in the 20-county area where Unity Health Plans conducts business. The lawsuit is still going on.
