This year, the McFarland Community Ice Arena will undergo a $3 million expansion in response to increased demand for space to accommodate hockey, figure and speed skating, and other winter sports, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. The 30-year-old facility is currently in use by over 30 organizations and also hosts open skates and tournaments.
Plans for the 13,500-square-foot expansion include a second ice sheet, new lobby, additional locker room, and indoor training area for dryland practices. The project will increase the facility’s size by over 50% and is scheduled to be complete by June.
The nonprofit’s board of directors has so far raised roughly $175,000 toward its $600,000 goal, and Starion Bank is providing the remainder needed to fund the expansion with a low-interest loan of $2.5 million. The new ice sheet will be called Starion Bank Rink.
