McDonald’s USA has announced it will raise wages by at least $1 an hour over locally mandated minimum wages at all company-owned stores effective July 1. Vacation benefits for full- and part-time employees will also be implemented that day for crew members employed for at least a year.

By the end of 2016, the average hourly wage for company-owned restaurant workers is expected to be more than $10.

The changes will affect about 90,000 workers at the company-owned stores, which make up fewer than 10% of the fast-food company’s 14,300 restaurants. The rest of the establishments are owned by more than 3,100 independent franchisees.

Nationwide, McDonald’s restaurants employ about 750,000 workers.
