After rejecting three previous offers, 300 union employees at Maysteel LLC in Allenton voted to accept a three-year contract and call off scheduled strike, according to a report in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The two sides compromised on benefits after the union rejected previous offers for no pay raises or pay cuts, higher health insurance costs, and fewer vacation days.

Under the new contract, the cost of health insurance for a family would more than double, to between $162 and $185 per week, according to the report, which quoted a Maysteel employee. In addition, there will be no pay raises during the three years and fewer vacation days.

Founded in 1936, Maysteel is a manufacturer of sheet-metal enclosures for vending machines, medical equipment, and other products. The company is part of the Milwaukee-based Everett Smith Group.
