In the wake of continuing unrest, Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway has announced an extension of the city’s evening curfew for another two nights, beginning Monday.

Noting the city is dealing with two public health emergencies, starting with the COVID-19 pandemic, Rhodes-Conway said: “It is also a priority to keep everyone in our community safe,” she states. “I have had multiple long conversation with [Police] Chief Wahl about the need for de-escalation and restraint. We are working to prevent a repetition of the events of the last two nights. To that end, I am extending a nighttime curfew (9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.) to the downtown Madison business district for another two evenings.

“Further, all business are closed in the downtown business district during curfew hours and traffic is restricted. I ask again that everyone take good care of themselves and be safe in this difficult time.”
