La Crosse’s Historic Preservation Commission received an application to give the Mayo Health Clinic’s Professional Arts Building a historic designation on Thursday, the Wisconsin State Journal reported.

The application was accepted but now has to receive feedback at a public hearing in February to hear arguments for and against the application.

A historic designation requires building owners to get special permissions before altering or demolishing building features. The Preservation Alliance of La Crosse nominated the exterior of the Professional Arts Building for preservation, not the interior.
