Exact Sciences has announced that Mayo Clinic will be the first health care system to offer Cologuard, the Madison life sciences firm’s innovative stool-based colorectal cancer screening test. Mayo Clinic, which collaborated with Exact Sciences in developing the test, will make it available to its patients through their primary-care physicians. Cologuard recently became the first test of its kind to win FDA approval.
“Cologuard represents a significant advancement in identifying colorectal cancer at its most treatable stage,” said Vijay Shah, Mayo Clinic’s chair of gastroenterology and hepatology, in a release. “We believe offering this new tool will promote patient and community public health and may move more patients to get screened earlier—a critical step in beating this prevalent and preventable cancer.”
