A new nationwide Marquette Law School Poll, conducted Sept. 8–15, finds that before Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s death, 48% of respondents said the choice of the next justice was very important to them, with 34% saying it was somewhat important and 17% saying it was not too important or not at all important.

The vacancy on the court created by the death of Justice Ginsburg has put a nomination to the court at the center of political debate, and President Trump says he’ll announce his choice on Saturday. Republicans have signaled they have the votes to confirm Trump’s pick, and hearings are expected to take place before the Nov. 3 presidential election.
