Markets yield mixed results following long weekend

Wall Street was mixed in quiet trading early today after the Memorial Day weekend holiday, according to the Associated Press. Futures for the S&P 500 were up 0.1% before the bell, while futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average dipped 0.1%.

U.S. Cellular jumped 5.6% after it announced that T-Mobile is buying the company’s wireless operations and certain assets in a deal valued at $4.4 billion.

GameStop, one of the original meme stocks, was off and running again, jumping more than 25% in premarket trading.

In other trading this morning, U.S. benchmark crude oil gained $1.05 to $78.77 per barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Brent crude, the international standard, was close to unchanged at $82.92 per barrel.

In currency dealings, the U.S. dollar slipped to 156.78 Japanese yen from 156.89 yen.
