A developer has offered a downscaled plan to bring market-rate apartments to a mixed-use project on South Park Street. Walter Wayne Development, with offices in Madison and Rochelle, Illinois, has an agreement to purchase land owned by Sue Jiang that would raze the Jade Garden and three other properties on the 1100 block of South Park Street, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report.

An earlier proposal raised neighborhood concerns about height and size. The project has gone from five-stories to four, and the most current plans call for a three-story, mixed-use development that would offer 2,600 square feet of ground-floor commercial space, 44 apartments, 40 underground parking spaces, and 19 surface spaces.

Notably, it’s very early in the process, but the developer hopes to seek land-use approvals early in 2020.
