March jobs report shows mixed bag

While hiring in March accelerated to 916,000 jobs across the nation, many jobs remain lost, according to a report from the Associated Press. The March increase was the most since August and nearly double February’s gain of 468,000. The unemployment rate declined from 6.2% to 6%. While employers adding jobs is a sign of continued recovery from the COVID-19 recession, the economy remains more than 8 million jobs short of pre-pandemic numbers. Many forecasters predict enough hiring in the months ahead to regain nearly all of the lost jobs by the end of 2021.
