A new $1.65 million system outside of Middleton to separate water from cow manure is now part of Dane County’s clean water efforts, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report.

The AQUA Innovations system began operations in early summer and takes liquid manure from local dairy farms and extracts nutrients that can be spread onto fields as fertilizer. The water that trickles into the Pheasant Branch Creek after treatment is considered clean enough to drink.
