A city planning staff report not only recommended that the Madison Landmarks Commission turn down a proposal to demolish an old home in the Mansion Hill area at 127 W. Gilman St., it also recommended that Steve Brown Apartments’ entire proposal be rejected at this time. Steve Brown Apartments hoped to erect three five-story brownstone apartment buildings on land created by moving one older home, demolishing another, and razing The Highlander, a student housing high-rise at 121 W. Gilman St. City staff felt the Steve Brown design was inappropriate for the neighborhood.
The Landmarks Commission will review Brown’s proposal on Jan. 6.
