Richard Chapman, 66, was sentenced to 96 months in prison on Wednesday after pleading guilty to robbing a bank with a slip of paper, NBC15 reports. The Department of Justice says he robbed downtown Madison’s Park Bank in February by giving the teller a note, which claimed he had a gun and demanded money.
The teller cooperated, believing that Chapman had a gun, and Chapman afterward attempted to flee police but was caught. He told the police, “You got me.” Officials noted clothes and the note were found in a bag Chapman was carrying but did not confirm whether or not he actually had a gun.
Chapman has a criminal record that includes previous convictions for bank robberies in 1996 and 2001 for 70 and 188 months, respectively.
