National Association of Letter Carriers members rallied at the Capitol building downtown in response to recent attacks on letter carriers, WMTV15 reports.
The workers have reported an increase in robberies, violent crimes, and gun violence against mail carriers. The trend is causing some employees to become fearful in carrying out daily responsibilities.
In addition to raising awareness of the issue, the group is advocating for the “Protect Letter Carriers Act” to be made law. It proposes that the post office receive funding to protect letter carriers, providing employees with safety tools and holding attackers accountable.
