Madison’s Smart Motors, founded in 1908 and one of the longest-running automotive dealerships in the U.S., will have new ownership under the Anderson family of Omaha, Nebraska. The sale is effective Jan. 8.
The Anderson family entered the automotive business in 1957, with Tal Anderson’s part-time employment at Baxter Chrysler-Plymouth in Omaha. Johnny Baxter later made Anderson a partner and ultimately sold the dealership to him in 1983. The Andersons retained the Baxter name in respect for Johnny Baxter as well as business continuity.
Baxter Group’s current president and CEO is Mickey Anderson. The Smarts and the Andersons share a common history of multigenerational ownership, as well as a value of customer satisfaction and commitment to quality.
