The city of Madison’s pedestrian plan is beginning an update process to focus on increased safety, comfort and more.

The last pedestrian daft was published in 1997. City staff just began the public input process for the pedestrian plan, the Cap Times reported

Some safety concerns can be busy lane crossings, as well as the walking experience in the evening.

There are numerous goals for the plan to reach to be considered a success by 2035, such as no serious and fatal pedestrian crashes, or a higher percentage of walkability to stores and transit stops.

Generally, the draft plan wants sidewalks on each side of a street, access to closer low-stress street crossings and more.
