Madison workers vote to unionize, owner closes division in response

Employees at Crushin’ It Apparel have voted to unionize, but the owner of the company says he’s closed the part of the company where those employees worked, according to a Capital Timesreport. In an unanimous vote by the National Labor Relations Board, six workers cast ballots in favor of being represented by the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) District 7. The parties have five days to file objections to the vote after which the results can be certified. A certified vote means the employer will need to begin bargaining in good faith with employees. However, the owner of the company, Jeremy Kruk, says he’s closed the division and will be selling the equipment. Two months ago, workers presented Kruk with a list of demands, including timely pay, a raise, and better working conditions.
