The economic crisis caused by COVID-19 is prompting the Madison Water Utility to try to stop a rate hike that would have raised residential bills by an average of 13 percent, according to a Wisconsin State Journalreport.
The utility requested the increase last year due to higher operating costs, debt, and aging pipes. It’s now hoping to delay the increase citing the current pandemic.
The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin will hold a public meeting via telephone and livestream on May 15 to hear concerns from residents.
