Madison Gas and Electric has filed an application with the Wisconsin Public Service Commission for a one-year freeze in electric service rates while asking for a 4% rate hike for natural gas, according to a report from the Wisconsin State Journal.

Several consumer and renewable-energy advocates approve the plan but critics say the freeze will result in bigger hikes in the future.
