Courier Communications, publisher of the Milwaukee Courier, the state’s oldest black-owned newspaper, has acquired The Madison Times, a weekly newspaper that launched in 1991. Courier Communications also owns Milwaukee radio station WNOV.

The Madison Times was founded in 1991 by Betty Franklin-Harris. In 2005, it was sold to publisher Ray Allen.

The two newspapers have been sharing content and advertising for the past year. The Times will remain in Madison, and Courier Communications plans to expand the paper’s editorial and sales staff.
