Andrea Missureli, head of the Madison Teachers Inc. union, is focused on fixing veteran teachers’ salary compression in the Madison Metropolitan School District, she told The Cap Times.

Missureli explained how new teachers are hired at higher salaries, while veteran teachers languish in lower pay grades. Some of it has been fixed in Madison schools, she said, but not all staff members have had their pay rise.

Other issues affecting districts across the state are a lack of funding, which Missureli is pursuing as a top issue during her tenure as union head.
