Thanks to an agreement with Samsung in its contract with Universal Recycling Technologies, the city of Madison is dropping its $10 recycling fee for TVs, computers, laptops, and monitors for the rest of 2023 beginning on Feb. 20, according to a report from the Wisconsin State Journal.

Residents must transport those electronics items to city drop-off sites and cannot put them on the curb due to hazardous chemicals within the items. Residents who put a TV, computer, monitor, etc., on the curb will have to pay a special assessment from the Streets Division for the administrative costs associated with the item’s removal, the city said. Businesses cannot use the electronics drop-off sites.

The city expects to reinstate the electronics recycling fee next year.
