Workers at east side Madison’s Sourdough Co. have ratified their first contract just under a year after voting in a union, according to The Capital Times. The move secures raises, sick time, parental leave, and more for United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 1473 members.
The contract was ratified on March 7. It covers around 40 of the bakery’s workers, including all of its bakers, baristas, dishwashers, cooks, and delivery drivers. In addition to raising base pay rates, guaranteeing annual raises, and providing sick time, the contract makes scheduling more predictable; establishes a safety committee comprising workers and management; increases paid vacation time; and adds new benefits like parental leave, a retirement plan, and short-term disability insurance.
