The Madison School District hired Edell Fiedler as its new communications director, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. Fiedler began April 22 and in this role will oversee public outreach and events, internal communications, and media relations.
Fiedler previously worked as director of communications and engagement for the city of Elgin, Illinois and is an adjunct instructor at Minnesota State University in Mankato. She also taught communications courses at the University of Phoenix and has more than 20 years of professional communications experience.
The position Fiedler now fills has been vacant since the former director, Tim LeMonds, was put on leave and retired from the district last summer following allegations that he had retaliated against employees, bullied staff repeatedly, and disparaged local news reporters. An internal investigation pronounced the allegations without merit, but an outside investigation recommended disciplinary action including termination.
