The Madison Metropolitan School District approved its $668 million budget without having to draw from its rainy day fund, but it is unsure of budget pitfalls or needs that may arise due to the federal government shutdown, the Cap Times reports.
The budget plans for an expenditure of $574 million on daily operations, compared to $577 million in revenue.
This year’s budget increased by 10% in both revenue and expenses compared to last year’s. Some of the additional spending is from expanding 4K options and increasing staff. Roughly 81% of the budget goes to staff compensation.
The federal government shutdown could come into play with reimbursement for school meals. The State Department of Public Instruction said funding for reimbursement will last through October.
