Madison-based Swallow Solutions received $727,000 in funding from 18 investors to continue helping people with swallowing disorders.

According to the Wisconsin State Journal, the company is developing thicker beverages that can help people more easily direct liquids down their esophagus rather than being misdirected into the windpipe and lungs.

The company, in collaboration with New York-based International Food Network (owned by Covance) is looking to develop thicker versions of lemonade, cranberry juice, and iced tea.

Since its launch in 2009, Swallow Solutions has raised $4.9 million in equity and debt.
