Vaccine companies FluGen and India-based Bharat Biotech, in collaboration with University of Wisconsin–Madison virologists, have begun the development and testing of CoroFlu, a unique vaccine against COVID-19, according to a UW release.
CoroFlu will build on Madison-based FluGen’s flu vaccine known as M2SR and is based on an invention by UW virologists and FluGen co-founders Yoshihiro Kawaoka and Gabriele Neumann.
Testing in animal models is expected to take three to six months after which production at Bharat Biotech in Hyderabad, India will begin. The vaccine could be in human clinical trials by fall.
