In a study by AdvisorSmith examining the best cities for construction workers based upon the size of each city, Madison ranked fifth-best among metropolitan areas with populations over 500,000. The study looked at variables such as the average salary for construction workers, the density of construction jobs available, and the cost of living.
Madison ranked No. 48 city for construction workers overall, beating out Wausau (205), Janesville (221), and Oshkosh (222) with 2% more jobs for construction workers on a per-capita basis compared with the U.S. average. Additionally, the average annual salary for construction workers in Madison is $43,810, which is 5% higher than the national average.
Stockton, California ranked first in the large city category, and Pittsburgh, Spokane, and Baton Rouge also made the top of the list.
