A new study by Golf Workout Program looking at the best U.S. locations for golfers found that Madison is the 10th best midsize metro area for golfers. The study considered local weather, total PGA Tour events in the past five years, golf courses and country clubs per capita, and sporting goods stores per capita.
Golf has experienced a nationwide increase in popularity since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the National Golf Foundation, rounds played in 2021 were up 5% over 2020 and 19% over the three-year average from 2017 to 2019. A record 3.2 million people played for the first time in 2021.
