Madison ranked No. 3 among best US metros for young professionals

Forbes Advisor analyzed data for 99 major U.S. metros spanning four key categories — employment and pay, housing affordability, lifestyle, and cost of living — to determine the best places for young professionals, and found the Madison metro area ranks third-best.

Key findings for the Madison metro area include: 

  • The median individual income of $63,511 placed 21st highest among U.S. metros;

  • The unemployment rate is exactly 2%, the lowest out of all 99 metro areas considered;

  • Renters can expect to spend approximately 23.13% of the median individual income on rent, which is below average; and

  • Homeownership is a little more challenging here, as median homeownership costs amount to 27.57% of the median income.
