A recent study from CommercialSearch identified Madison among America’s best cities for international students, ranking it the fifth-best small to mid-sized city nationwide. The study determined rankings based on three composite metrics: affordability and green commuting, community and support, and fun and recreation. Cities were segmented into two population brackets: small to mid-sized and large.
The following key findings contributed to Madison’s fifth-place overall ranking:
- With approximately 4,000 international students enrolled in its universities, Madison ranks fourth in the “community and support” metric, which looked at the total number of international students the city managed to attract as well as the number of support services available for them;
- The city takes the fifth spot for the cost of living and mobility composite metric; and
- Home to 1,893 recreational establishments, Madison comes in as the ninth-best city for the fun and recreation metric.
